EMI is now pushing Apple to stop having static iTunes prices. They just don't get it. The whole idea behind the static $0.99 pricing is to make people actually forget they are buying anything -- since they don't have to consider the price. As a result, they've spent enormous amounts of money on iTunes tracks.
And now the recording industry, in it's endless lust for more profit, is about to break this model. If they succeed, iTunes sales will drop drastically, as people will stop to consider the prices every time they make a purchase decision. Way to go, EMI.
